Literature Text

An old woman stood browsing produce. Other shoppers paid little attention to her until a teenage girl with short, bright blue hair and odd, flamboyant clothing approached her. A delinquent, they probably though.

“There you are. Come on, we need to get moving,” said the blue-haired girl.

“Hello. Do I know you?” asked the old woman. This got the girl several dirty looks.

“Yes, I’m your granddaughter, Pixie.”

“Oh, that’s right,” said the woman. “Do you know where I am? Or what my name is?”

“Your name is Maggie, we’re grocery shopping.”

A few dirty looks began turning sympathetic as Pixie took her grandmother by the hand and lead her further into the store. They barely made it to the dairy section when Maggie said “Hello there. Have we met?”

Pixie nodded. “I’m your granddaughter.” She put a gallon of milk in the cart.

“Ah, that’s right. Nice to meet you.”

The question was asked every few isles, with a few variations to wording, but the meaning was the same, and each time more of the dirty looks the blue-haired girl was initially given became sympathetic, sad, or understanding. The hands of strangers reached out to help the woman along or to take wanted items off the shelves for her. The clerk smiled sadly at the pair when as the teen paid for their groceries and walked out the front doors, arm-in-arm with blue-haired old woman.

As they loaded the truck, Pixie said “I love you, grandma.”

“I love you too, sweetie.” The old woman put the last bag in the bed of the truck and looked up, surprised to see a young girl with bright blue hair and riding breeches standing in front of her. “Oh, hello there. Do I know you?”
:star: EDIT 27/5/14: I don't know if it was by chance or what, but somehow this ended up featured by DailyLitRecognition, so thank you! I'm honored that my tiny little story has gotten so much (unexpected) attention. :star:

:star: EDIT 6/6/2014: Eeeeee, this won 1st place in tOCC's contest! :star:

A sad little story for The-OC-Consortium's Flash Fiction contest.

It feels a bit too short, but I guess that's the point of the contest and I didn't want to be as repetitive as I tend to be, so here it is. Poor Pixie, she's probably my most upbeat character but I always stick her in sad situations or draw her for vent art.
Now on to the visual part of the contest!

Going to say this takes place when Pixie is (barely) 16, which is about 6-7 years back in her storyline.

Fun fact: Harold is Pixie's grandfather (and Maggie's husband). I don't think I've mentioned it before, but I liked him and when I created Pixie and gave her a location/house really similar to the one mentioned in Harold's story, I decided to merge the two and make them related.
